his tank is square in shape and is constructed using red sandstone. There is a beautiful platform enclosed by a balustrade with jalies in the center. There is a raised seat in the middle of the platform which serves as a loveseat and has a very romantic appeal about it.

There are four causeways connecting the platform to the sides. These causeways are supported with the help of stoned pillars and capitals with brackets. The excellent planning of the people who built the city of Fatehpur sikri is evident in the Anup Talao.

This tank has been connected to the water work system in the north of the city to ensure the inflow of fresh water into the tank. A similar system supplies fresh water to the Sukh taal outside the southern wall which prevents the water from overflowing.

There is a record of the Fatehpur Sikri Anup Talao in the historical records written by Abul Fazl. He mentions that the Anup Talao was once filled with silver, gold and copper coins that shimmered in the rays of the sun and gave a stunning and mesmerizing look to the tank.

It has been mentioned in the memoirs of Jehangir that silver and copper coins worth one crore three lakh rupees were emptied out of the Anup talao and given away in charity. Such facts give solid evidence of the grandeur and extravagance of the Mughal empire.
