Vypin is a thin long island, sandwiched between the Arabian sea and the Kochi Backwaters. Approximately 24km long, Vypin island is connected to the main land via three bridges and many ferry points.

Essentially you've two major routes to reach Cherai Beach, the NH17 (now NH66) and the NH47.

The Malinkara bridge towards the north of Vypin is the easy road connection to Cherai, if you are traveling southwards on NH17 (ie, from Guruvayur, Kodungallur etc). Take the diversion to Vypin at Moothakunnam. Cherai beach is about 5km south of Malinkara bridge.

The second bridge is near Cherai Village square connecting N.Paravoor with Vypin. On NH17, Cherai beach is a 6km diversion from N.Paravoor town square. Take this route if you are traveling from Aluva, Angamali, Cochin Airport etc.

The Goshree bridge at the south most of Vypin connects it with Ernakulam city center. Cherai Beach is about 24km from Marine Drive in Ernakulam.

Once in Vypin island, you'll be driving on the busy Vypin-Pallipuram road, the connects the towns in Vypin.

Cherai Beach is on a narrow stretch of land separating the backwaters from the sea. There is a narrow beach road, along the coastline.At Cherai Village square take the diversion to the beach road.

The road road ends at the busy beach where most of the day-trippers go. The laid-back beaches are a few minutes walk towards north or south from the main tourist scene.

Most of the Cherai resorts are at a shot distance from the main beach. Club Mahindra Cherai Beach Resort, Cherai Beach Resorts etc are towards south of the Cherai beach.

Sea Line Beach Resort, Les 3 Elephants etc are towards the north.
