Kerala Backwater resort with floating cottages.
Floating Cottages
The floating cottages are much like the rooms in those houseboats, genly rolls with the waves, veranda open to the lake. But there are moored to the shore, and wont sail like the houseboat.
Club Mahindra Ashtamudi in Kerala is located in the lush district of Kollam, home to one of the largest lakes in Kerala, second only in size to Vembanad backwater, north of Kollam.
Ashtamudi, literally means 8 branches, is a complex shaped lake occupying well over 30% of Kollam district. Coconut palm fringed small towns and villages lie huddled together on Ashamudi's banks. Many villages on the periphery of Ashtamudi are connected with a vast network of canals and lagoons.
Club Mahindra Ashtamudi, you can sit in the veranda of the collate, where the waves gently laps on the edges of your cottages and watch the local village life, fishermen casting the net, people commute on the canoes and ferries, those chinese fishing net in action, white breasted eagle and cormorants flying around, watching sun set, try your luck with angling or simply sit and enjoy the windswept Nature.
The floating cottages at Club Mahindra Ashtamudi Resort like a house boat and cottage rolled into one!
These signature cottages are premium and only few in number, compared to the regulatr cottages and room located in the facility. These generally get over booked quick, so plan well in advance, if you are keen on to experience stay in a cottage, book early ( Booking.com, Tripadvisor, Makemytrip etc).
Also look out for the deep discounts during the off season , you may even get 50% from the peak season rates. One great thing about the off season (rainly) is, the backwaters has a special charm during the monsoon. So it's a win-win
Be aware that there cottages rolls and pitches ( like a moored boat) gently, almost through. If you are motion sick, opt for the regular rooms, rather than the floating one.
Ripples is the floating restaurant. Highlights of this restaurant is dishes made from the fresh catch from the lake and seafood. Ask for Pearlspot Fry (a bony but popular for local delicacy). Like the floating cottages, Ripples Restaurant too is moored on the edges on this backwater facing property.
The resort is also your base to set out for backwater cruise. The cruise theme is to explore the Nature, villages and life around the backwater on a large house boat.
Quilon Jn ( Kollam ) is the nearest railway station Club Mahindra Ashtamudi Resort is 1 hour (15km) pleasant taxi ride through the villages. Kollam is on the main north-south rail route that passes through Kerala.
