Vypin-Ernakulam-Marine_drive
Driving Directions: From Ernakulam Marine Drive to Cherai Beach is about 25km. Take the Goshree road at the northern tip of Marine drive towards Vallarpadam. A series of bridges across the Kochi Backwaters will take you to the southern tip of Vypin Island.
From the southern part of Vypin to Cherai is about 20km. It can take anything from 45min to 1 hour drive to reach Cherai from Ernakulam.
Another road option is to approach Cherai from the north of Vypin Island. Drive from Ernakulam city towards Edapally, from where the NH17 starts. From Edapally Junction take the NH17 and drive towards N. Paravoor that's about 18km. At North Paravoor leave the NH17 and take the left diversion to Vypin. Cherai Beach is 6km from North Paravoor.
If you are driving from the northern part of Ernakulam, take the Aluva (Alwaye) to North Paravoor route starting from NH47. Aluva to Cherai distance is about 22km.
By the way at 22km, Aluva is the nearest railway station for Cherai, though Ernakulam too is of comparable distance.
From Cochin International Airport, take a cab. It's a 30 to 45 minutes drive to Cherai (25km) via North Paravoor.
Public Transport:Bus Take one of those KSRTC buses that operate between Ernakulam and Vypin. Get dropped at Cherai Junction. The beach is a 2km walk or auto rickshaw ride from the bus stop.
Public Transport: Ferry
Another public transport option is the Ernakulam to Vypin ferry service. Boats leave frequently from the Ernakulam Boat Jetty near Subash Park, south of Marine Drive. The catch is, the ferry drops you at the southern tip of Vypin island. Cherai is about 20km north of the Vypin boat jetty. You can take one of those local buses operate on the atrial route in Vipin. Get down at Cherai bus stop.
By the way, from Fort Kochi to Vypin, the ferry is the quick option. You'll find one every 15 minutes or so.
There is also a Jhankar service to Vypin, where you can take your car/bike on the barge to Vypin.
