Guna Caves is located on the outskirts of Kodaikanal.
The area was given the name Guna Caves after appearing in the 1991 blockbuster "Gunaa", starring Kamal Haasan. Following the film's release, the location experienced an increase in visits and tourists.
Other films were also shot there, notably the climax of the Malayalam film Shikkar in 2010.
Another Malayalam survival thriller movie, Manjummel Boys (2024), is based on a real-life cave accident.
According to the folklore, the Pandavas stayed in the caves and cooked their meals.
The caves are infamous for their notorious history, as many persons who went in for exploration have gone without a trace.
Despite their lofty location, access to the caves is regulated, ensuring safety by limiting entry to only a few secure vantage points.
Visitors can leisurely stroll along paths shaded by pine forests, which guide them to the entrance of these intriguing caves. Immersed in a serene atmosphere, one can spend an entire day navigating the labyrinthine trails that wind through the eerie charm of the Devil’s Kitchen.
