You can enter Kerala from neighing states through north ( from Mangalore, Goa, Mumbai side), from south ( from Kanyakumari side), through east ( from Coimbatore, Bangalore, Chennai side) . Also there less busy eastern routes like Pollachi to Palakkad and Shenkottai to Kollam.
Many long distance trains terminates at Ermnakulam ( Kochi) and Thiruvananthapuram.
