Anantha Padmanabha, a form of Lord Vishnu, is considered as the presiding deity of Thiruvananthapuram.
The ‘moolasthanam’ (origin) of this temple is believed to be the lake temple at Ananthapura in Kasaragod district, some 500km north of Thiruvananthapuram.
