his temple is located in heart of Ernakulam city.

The presiding deity - Lord Shiva - is considered as the protector of the city, as per local Hindu faiths and traditions. So the deity is reverently called Ernakulathappan, means Lord of Ernakulam.

Deities Ernakulam Shiva Temple

The presiding deity of the temple is Lord Shiva in the Gourisankara form. The faces westward towards the seaside.

The Siva lingam (idol) in the temple is considered to be Swayambhoo, meaning divinely derived.

On the northern side of the main sanctum sanctorum is the shrine of Lord Krishna, believed to be worshiped by Arjuna.

On the southern side is a small shrine for Lord Ganesha.

There is a small area behind the main sanctum sanctorum, considered as abode of Goddess Parvati. The eastern temple gate facing this shrine is known as the Devi Gate. Outside the Inner temple circle are shrines for Lord Ayyappa and Nagaraja.

Opening & Closing Timings

Forenoon : Opens at 3.30 am - Closes at 11am.
Afternoon : Opens at 4 pm - Closes at 8pm
During day time temple remain closed from 11am to 4pm.

Ideal time to visit the temple is early mornings (5am to 8am) & evenings ( Deeparadhana at 6.30pm is popular)

How to reach Ernakulathappan Temple is the most convenient to reach temple in Kochi city. The temple is by the seaside next to the Durbar Hall Ground. You can walk to the temple from Subhash Bose Park and Marine drive area.

Take any city bus that goes via Darbar Hall and get down at Darbar Hall bus stop. The temple is right next to the bus top.

From Ernakulam Junction railway station (south station), Ernakulathappan Temple 1.5km . Take auto-rickshaw or city bus (in every 15 minutes.)

Festivals The annual temple festival called Ulsavam is during the month of January-February.
This is a weeklong even with many traditional art performances and fireworks held in the temple vicinity.

Also, all special days dedicated to Lord Shiva is significant in this temple.
