Thiruvananthapuram and Kanyakumari makes the two end of a popular tourist circuit in south India.

Though this is is a national highway, expect a relatively busy and slow mong traffic, thanks to the many towns and villages the NH66 passes through. Trivandrum to Kanyakumari is a 3 hour drive.
Kovalam, Poovar and Thengapattanam beaches south of Thiruvananthapuram along the way to Kanyakumari. The beaches are approximately 10 km detour from the highway.
Now part of Tamilnadu state, Padmanabhapuram was former capital city of the erstwhile Travancore Kingdom. Padmanabhapuram is 60km from Thiruvananthapuram city. Padmanabhapuram Palace is now a museum, a fine specimen of the Kerala style architecture. A little south of the palace is Udayagiri Fort, built during Travancore king Marthanda Varma, between 1741-44.
Mattom, Sanguthurai, Chothavilai and Vattakottai are less crowded beaches around Kanyakumari. Vattakottai has a small fort overlooking the sea. Vattakottai is a 10km detour from Kanyakumari.
