Tipu's Summer Palace in Srirangapatna

Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace

Tipu’s Summer Palace in Srirangapatna makes an ideal short detour on the way to Mysore

In many ways the summer palace of Tipu Sultan in Bangalore is compared with his another summer palace , the Daria Daulat Bagh , located in Srirangapatna near Mysore.

Though both the palaces were made of wood and built on comparable style of architecture, they are distinct. And most probably were used by Tipu Sultan for different purposes too.

While the design of the palace in Bangalore looks a lot formal, open and practical from an administrative point, the one in Srirangapatna looks like a private retreat with closed rooms and narrow verandahs. The Daria Daulat Bagh ( of Srirangapatna) has some of the most amazing murals of the era.

While the one in Bangalore too has its walls decorated with floral designs and frescos, it makes no match to the frescos of Srirangapatna palace.

The most interesting part of the summer palace in Bangalore is the open architecture with beautiful porches and elegant halls. Those woodwork with the cusped arches and the grid of pillars makes it majestic. There is ample space for a formal gatherings.

That is not very true Daria Daulat Bagh of Srirangapatna. And you are allowed to take photograph inside the palace in Bangalore, while that is not the case with the palace in Srirangapatna. So that’s a short comparison of the two summer palaces of Tipu Sultan.

Palace in Bangalore.
