Three popular road routes and driving directions for Munnar from Bangalore
NH85, the national highway connects Kochi in Kerala with Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu passes via Munnar, Devikulam and Madurai.
This is by far the most popular choice. Consider this route if you are looking for the shortest rote to reach Munnar from Bangalore. From Bangalore hit the Hosur road.Its 4 or 6 lane highway all the way till the diversion at Avinashi. Further it's 2 lane road beyond Udumalpet the hilly terrain starts.
Bangalore → 40km → Hosur →50km → Krishnagiri → 110km → Salem → 60km → Bhavani → 20km → Perundurai → 42km → Avinashi → 22km → Palladam → 56km → Udumalaipettai → 88km → Munnar
Take this route if you are adding Mysore & Ooty in your trip itinerary. This is the longest route to drive to Munnar. The bonus is you will drive though two very scenic national parks areas - Mudumalai National Park near Ooty & Anamalai Tiger Reserve, before you enter Munnar.
From Bangalore, take the NICE road towards Mysore. Avoid driving in the night, especially the forest sections beyond Mysore. If you drive through the forest sections early in the morning or just before sunset, chances of spotting wildlife is high.
Bangalore → Hosur → Krishnagiri → Salem → Dindigul → Theni → Munnar
This is n extended version of the first option. Insead of the Bhavani diversion, head towards Dindigul . Prefered route if you are heading towards the tourism destinations south of Munnar ( like Chinnakanal,Kumily,Thekkady etc)
