Connaught Place

Called as CP, this locale in the northern part of the Delhi is a popular areas among tourists esp the backpackers.

haped in a hub-and-spoke layout, Connaught Place used to be the prime commercial & geographical centre of Delhi.

[#7291]On the Delhi map, look for an area with a The area as a big circle in the middle with radial roads spreading out in all directions. This is Connaught Place. The area is planned concentrically, with an inner circular road (called Rajiv Chowk ), approximately 1km goes around the park. The Rajiv Chowk metro station is right under this park.

The outer circle, called Connaught Circle is (officially Indira Chowk) is about 2km long.

On the radial direction, eight roads lead out from Connaught Places's inner circle, named Parliament Street and Radial Roads 1 to 7. Twelve different roads lead out from Connaught Circus, the outer ring. The best known of these is Janpath, the continuation of Radial Road 1.

New Delhi railway station is 1km north of Connaught Place.

Palika Bazaar (Municipal Market), a famous flea market (first underground market), is on the south west side . Connaught Circus (outer circle), have plenty of restaurants, shops and hotels, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and so on. The Middle Circle has offices, Banks, Thomascook, PVR cinema and many eating outlets.

This area is a popular hangout among the budget tourists and backpackers.
