How to buy the traditional Kanchipuram silk sari in Kanchipuram!

The weaver community strives in and around the Kanchipuram town. For the visitors there are many local shops, mostly on the Mahatma Gandhi Road. Many shops would also have a loom installed inside to demonstrate the sari making process. Make it a point to visit this, if you happens to visit a shop. Prices typically vary from ₹5000 all the way up to ₹20000 and beyond. Typically you can expect to buy it at 50% of the cost compared to the prices in those large city showrooms.
As you move around in the Kanchipuram you will be trailed by agents (on mopeds and bikes, if you travel by car!) offering helps to take you around, including to silk shops. In that case beware that you'll be paying including the agent's commission.
Typically Kanchipuram Sari is heavily accented with bold motifs, contrasting borders and bright coloured silk thread with golden patterns.
