uest house for important people, the Caravanserai is located near the Hathi Pol and was meant as a guest house for important people and traders.There is a spacious quadrangular court inside the caravanserai. This grand courtyard has rooms built on all its four sides.
Apart from these rooms on the southeast side there are terraces. The rooms earlier had pillared verandahs in front of them once which were later demolished. All the facilities for the guests like water and toilet were taken care of which is proved by the presence of a tank and well on the southeast side of the caravanserai.
The Caravanserai was constructed on the slope of a ridge and this natural feature was used expertly in a terraced construction. The basic plan of the serai is rectangular and the main entrance is on the northwestern side. The gateway was built over a plinth broken in the middle to make access to the main entrance archway possible. This entrance archway is flanked on two sides by two smaller archways. The arches have spandrels made of marble and are ornamented using red sandstone rossets.
The smaller arches are also ornamented with the use of marble. The arches once had stucco work, geometrical in design but have now faded. The caravanserai has all the features of a building constructed using typical mughul architecture. Its decorations and basic plan match those of the remaining important buildings in Fatehpur Sikri.
Exit through the Elephant Gate to reach Caravanserai, you can also visit the peculiarly shaped tower called Hiran Minar and the Waterworks nearby.
