Another alternative is to travel to Mysore from Bangalore by bus or train, and further travel to Coorg by road.

Traveling Kerala to Coorg:
There are three major road routes connects Coorg with Kerala.
Madikeri is connected to Kasargod via Sullia. This is a curvy but drivable road. Kasargod to Madikeri road distance is about 110km.
The second route from Madikeri to Kerala is via Bhagamandala and Panathur . You'll cross the Greater Talacauvery National park on the way. This is a narrow curvy road most of the part, but a very scenic route.
The road distance from Kasargod to Madikeri via Panathur is about 110km. Though its same distance as the road via Sullia, the road route via Panathur takes longer.
The third major route from Kerala to Coorg is via Iritti. This route connects southern towns of Coorg like Virajpet, Gonikoppal , Ponnampet etc with north Kerala towns like Kannur and Thalassery. Iritty to Virajpet distance is about 40km. The route is pretty bumpy esp. on the Karnataka side close to the state boarder.
A fourth road is the Gonikoppal to Mananthavady route via Kutta. This connects Coorg with Wayanad, two immensely popular vacation destinations saddling the Western Ghats. Mananthavady to Gonikoppal distance is about 65km.
